
Richard Ballerand is Managing Partner and digital health advisor at Axolotl Associates. He is passionate about health resilience, public engagement, and international collaboration.
Educated in law, economics, and psychology, he has a dual background in defence and finance. He has travelled widely as a military liaison officer and strategic consultant before serving as a non-executive or trustee on several think tanks, boards, and university councils.
He remains active across the European health sector, serving on the NICE Technology Appraisal Committee, the JPAC Board, the EIT Healthcare Transformation Academy Advisory Board, the UK Health Data Research Alliance Executive Committee, the ER4Health Strategic Advisory Board, and the useMYdata Executive Group. He is active in several ongoing UK and EU projects.
Richard is an EU Expert, a European Institute for Innovation and Technology expert evaluator, an Innovative Health Initiative patient expert, and a public governor of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital Trust.
He is a Fellow of the European Patients’ Academy on Therapeutic Innovation, the Royal Society of Medicine, and the Royal Society for Public Health..
Drawing on extensive lived experience with the British, French, and American healthcare systems, including family advocacy and care coordination, Richard has particular interests in individuals with invisible disabilities and the challenges faced by ex-military personnel and diverse groups. https://www.ballerand.net
